Black Rock Adventure Park: Northeast Ohio Clay & Timber Trails

The First Run

Step into these Conneaut woods and you’ll feel that Lake Erie air hugging you—thick, cool, and just a little bit wild, even when the sun’s out. The ground here? It’s that heavy Mahoning-Trumbull clay, the kind that grabs your boots and doesn’t let go, thanks to glaciers that did their dirty work ages ago.

Under the big hardwoods, the trails stay slick and bendy, so every corner is a little dance between your throttle and your tires. You’ll still spot the bones of the old Windy Hill Golf Club, with fairways rolling out like green carpets between the trees, breaking up the tight spots with some room to breathe.

Folks come here for the mud, the shade, and that special Northeast Ohio flavor you can’t fake. Right in the middle, there’s a man-made lake where families cool off, swap stories, and maybe wash off a little clay.

When Kyle Krieg and Melissa Light took over, they cranked things up—year-round riding, live music, and a layout that feels like it was made by folks who actually ride. This place is all about clay, canopy, and the steady hum of machines rolling through what used to be tee boxes and sand traps.

The Dirt: Why We Rip Here

That thick Ohio clay? It’s always up to something. In the shade, it stays slick and sneaky, and when it rains, those ruts turn into real-deal puzzles. Keep your throttle steady and your wheels sharp if you want to make it out clean.

Fifty miles of trails snake through rolling hills and tight timber, all thanks to the old golf course bones underneath. No crazy drops, just smooth flow and plenty of spots to open it up or get a little sideways.

Want to flex your suspension or see if your winch is worth its salt? Hit the obstacle course and bounty area—built for bragging rights and big saves, all without clogging up the main trails.

Bring your dirt bike, your SxS, your Jeep—heck, bring the whole garage. No width limits here, so your wide-track beast finally gets to play with the big kids.

Every season brings a new flavor: spring’s got the deepest mud, summer keeps things tacky under the trees, fall rains freshen up the ruts, and winter turns it all into fast, frozen hardpack. No two rides are ever the same.

The land rolls just enough to keep you guessing—little climbs, sneaky angles, and natural berms that make every lap a new game. No cliffs, just good old-fashioned fun.

Basecamp: Facilities & Camping

Roll in with your RV or toy hauler—hookups are close to staging, so you’re never far from the action but still get some peace and quiet when the engines cool off.

Prefer to rough it? Pitch your tent along the tree line for a little shade, a little quiet, and a lot of that back-to-nature vibe.

When you need a break from the mud, hit the lake. Sandy beach, fishing, and a spot to cool off or swap stories—plus, it keeps the clay where it belongs.

Hot showers and real bathrooms are ready for you—because that clay gets everywhere, and nobody wants to sleep in it.

Big, flat parking means easy staging, even if you roll in with a convoy. Day-trippers and campers each get their own space to spread out.

Live music, events, and good times are always on tap. This place is more than just trails—it’s a full-on off-road resort.

Fresh water and an RV dump station mean you can stay as long as you want. Settle in and make it your home base for adventure.

The Damage

Riders 13 and up get the keys to the whole playground for $25 a day—trails, obstacles, and all the mud you can handle. Easy in, easy out.

Passengers 13 and up ride along for $10, with full access to the lake, beach, and all the chill zones.

Got young mud-lovers? Kids 12 and under ride for $15, so the whole crew can get in on the action.

Little passengers are just $5, so bring the whole gang and let them soak up the fun.

Tent camping starts at $25 on weekdays and $35 on weekends. Big weekends with concerts or holidays? Plan for $50 to $60, but you’ll get your money’s worth.

RV hookups run $55 to $65 most days, and $95 to $110 when the party’s really rolling. Pick your spot, plug in, and let the good times roll.

Need a ride or a place to stash your machine? Rentals and storage are handled at the office—just ask when you roll in.

THE TECHNICALS

DOT‑approved MX helmets are required for all • Helmets are a must for everyone—this clay is slick, and those ruts don’t mess around. Keep your head in the game

No width restrictions are enforced, allowing 72‑inch SxS units and full‑size Jeeps to run the entire system. This policy is a major draw for riders whose machines exceed public‑land limits.

No  spark arrestors or noise limits, but do your neighbors a solid and keep it down around camp, especially when the sun’s just coming up or going down.

Trails run from easy to intermediate, but if you want to get wild, the mud pits and obstacle course are where you’ll earn your stripes. Most tough spots have go-arounds, so everyone gets a shot.

If you get stuck—and you probably will—recovery’s on you. Bring a winch, tow straps, and a sense of humor. That clay loves to keep souvenirs.

The clay here changes its mind fast—one minute you’ve got grip, the next you’re skating. Good lugs on your tires are your best friend.

Final Throttle

Black Rock isn’t your run-of-the-mill mud park. It’s got that thick clay, shady woods, and rolling ground that’ll keep you guessing—and grinning—every lap. The trails twist through old golf course turf, so you get a little bit of everything: slick mud, smooth runs, and just enough challenge to keep things spicy.

What really makes this place tick is the people. You’ll see folks pulling each other out of ruts, swapping stories by the lake, and jamming to live music when the sun goes down. This park has grown into a year-round playground that fits right in with Northeast Ohio’s wild weather and even wilder riders. If you’re looking for a spot with real-deal clay, deep shade, and plenty of room for your big rig, Black Rock is where you want to be.
